SLB User Guide

Installing SLB

Installing takes about ten minutes: upload the zip, activate, optionally install the starter theme.

Before you start. Take a full backup of the site (files and database), or work on a staging copy. Activating a new theme changes how the whole site looks. See Going live, backups, updates.

1. Get the plugin zip

SLB is distributed as a zip file named like slb-full-0.3.10.zip. Rabbit Marketing supplies it to you. It is not on WordPress.org.

The zip contains a single folder called slb. It includes the plugin, the slb-starter theme, the starter sections and the MCP folder (mcp) that Claude uses.

If you are an agency with access to the SLB project folder, the zip is built by running ./build-zip.sh in that folder. It writes dist/slb-full-<version>.zip and refuses to build if a required file is missing. Only the "full" build exists. There is no separate free build. Never rename a zip to hide a version change (see Updating).

2. Upload and activate

  1. Log in to WordPress as an administrator.
  2. Go to Plugins > Add New Plugin and click Upload Plugin.
  3. Click Choose File, pick the SLB zip and click Install Now.
  4. When WordPress finishes, click Activate Plugin.

Tip. If WordPress says the plugin file does not exist after upload, the zip was probably built incorrectly. Ask for a fresh zip. See Troubleshooting.

3. First-run checks

After activation, check these three things:

  1. A new item called SLB Editor (with a layout icon) appears in the left admin menu, near the bottom.
  2. Under it you see Settings and Developer Mode. Open SLB Editor > Settings.
  3. At the top of Settings, the Get started checklist shows a green tick for "Plugin active". The other items may be unticked. That is normal.

The checklist items are:

For ordinary page editing you only need the first item. The rest matter only if you use Claude.

4. Install and activate the starter theme (optional)

The slb-starter theme is a small, clean theme that works with every starter section. SLB works on other themes too, but the starter theme is what the Claude draft workflow expects.

  1. Go to SLB Editor > Settings and find Get started.
  2. Next to "Active theme is SLB-compatible", click Install starter theme. This button only shows if your active theme is not SLB-compatible and the starter is not installed yet.
  3. WordPress copies the theme and the starter sections into a slb-starter theme folder. It does not activate it.
  4. Go to Appearance > Themes, find SLB Starter and click Activate.
  5. Return to SLB Editor > Settings. The second checklist item should now be ticked.

Warning. Activating the starter theme replaces your current theme's look. Do it on a new site or a staging copy first. If the install button reports an error (your account cannot install themes, the site blocks file changes, or a folder named slb-starter already exists), nothing was changed. Ask your host or developer to install the theme from the plugin folder.

The theme's production stylesheet is already compiled, so you do not need to build anything to start. When Claude adds new sections, it rebuilds the stylesheet for you with the slb_build_css tool (see Every MCP tool explained).

5. You are ready

Go to Editing pages to build your first page. If you only want to use the editor, you can stop here.
